If you rent a small car in NZ, go to grocery and sleep mostly in DOC campground, you can figure a budget of about 60$/person/day.

HI Lisa,

I'm planning on a similar trip but a year later unfortunately. Still at a stage of picking countries and destinations

I'm planning on taking 10k for a year plus working where I can

All very exciting. Have you booked anything up yet or still planning it all out?

Hi Lisa

My name is Hildie and i'm planning on travelling again in April 2013 too - end of probably. Im going to Oz, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Bali and India. Ive been to Thailand and India travelling before and had a lovely holiday in Malaysia. I just have unfinished business with my travels and am dying to go back and do the rest of Asia and Western Oz. I'm taking 5k with me too, but as i see people have already advised, that may not be enough in Oz, so im probably just gonna spend 3 months there and then work backwards. I plan on travelling for a year - i think my friend is coming with, but she's letting me know for sure next weekend. I'm very excited and am planning on booking my rtw ticket in 2 weeks time. Have you tried Round the World Experts? They have quoted me £1400 for that ticket, valid for a year and you can change your dates/flights whenever you want FOC - just thought that might help to save some extra much needed money :)
Also dont know if youre interested but theres a good website called Anytime Anywhere and its good for finding jobs and volunteer work - speaking of which they are looking for volunteers in Maldives to help build and paint etc in the local communities - they normally provide digs which is good and could be something amazing to do!
Anyway let me know what you think, but i'd be interested in maybe joining you?

Hi Lisa,

Im from Perth Australia. I can tell you that Australia can be very expensive, Particularly if you are going out for dinner and drinks. A pint of beer averages $9 AUD more or less depending where you go. If you buy from a bottle-O you can get it much cheaper. Getting between places can also be expensive especially if you choose to fly, although flying between cities on the East coast can be alot cheaper, but getting from place to place in Western Australia much a different story. In WA best bet Id say are tour buses eg South West buses... I remember getting from Margaret River (A must if you are in WA) to Perth for $15-20 AUD could be more now?
In terms of flights there are deals websites that you can look out for though which have cheap flight deals between places, Common budget domestic airlines in Oz include JetStar, Virgin Blue and Tiger airways... if you sign up with them they send you emails with fligths deals every so often, I saw a one way ticket to Melbourne on tiger airways from Perth for $60 thats the cheapest I've ever seen a flight Perth to Melbourne. On Average they will be $200 (each way) (Note Easter , New years and schools holidays are always more expensive). If you only have carry on luggage (7kg limit usually) this will also save some money if you choose to fly between cities.
As for accommodation if you look at private houses etc and you plan on staying in one place for a while you can get accommodation for $100/wk depending on the area and what sites you look at.. I like www.gumtree.com.au for finding share accommodation. Hostels I imagine would be more in the long term.

Hope this helps and Have fun on your travels. I look forward to my own Round the world Trip (mostly Europe next Year). Planning seems to be half the fun!

Catchya.
x
Casey
