find a company of male travellers - you might have a hard time walking down the street in Indian towns even with your girlfriends.

The Goans don't consider themselves to be Indian ... The northern beach areas of Goa are full of foreign package tourists, especially Brits. I personally prefer Calangute Beach. It's loooong with many beach shack restaurants and shaded deck chairs, etc to chill out on

hi there ,

well i guess the best way to explore the beaches is rent a bike ...thats what we did like explored the different beaches first 2 days then we settled in one place where we liked...
the one i liked was palolem , its really good ....less crowded by the local tourists compared to other beaches ...

even colva 's good but in the weekend its packed...

have fun

Aren't Colva & Palolem on the southern side of the river? There are some great resorts there, but Nomio and her friends might want to party with other foreigners on holidays. If this is the case, then the northern beaches are the go

Palolem is a beautiful beach, and when I was there last March, lots of foreign backpackers filled the beach cabinas and there was a fair amount of partying going on. I would definealty recommend Palolem as one of your stops if you are looking for these things.

North of Old Goa, the beaches are nice, though as another post pointed out, this whole strip is full of Brit package tourism (hotel, restaurant, sourvenier shops everywhere) and loads of INdian men wandering the beaches gawking at bikinis. At the far north end is Baga Beach, where it is a little less like Brit Package Tourism land.

Further north, accessible by scooter or taxi is Anjuna, with a much more mellow tourist scene in that it is more backpackers than package tourists. There is a really cool club called The 9 Bar, I think, right on the beach. It closes like at 10pm because of noise pollution, but it was really fun.

We bargained for a scooter for multiple days and it was really fun not to have to get a taxi everytime we went out.

Have fun!
