I think I spent around 5 days in Perth and that was more than enough to explore the city, with a day trip to Fremantle. (The prison there is well worth a visit). I didn't think it was that great a city to be honest, especially compared to Sydney and Melbourne. Overall I loved Western Australia though - there are some really pretty parts and it's much less touristy than the East Coast, so it's worth spending some time that region.

I flew between Perth and Adelaide with Virgin Australia; Jetstar also fly this route.

It's also possible to get the train which I believe takes around 36 hours. Some travellers drive via the Nullabor which would be pretty cool.

I don't remember finding WA any more expensive that anywhere else in Oz.
