I am traveling to Jamaica Aug 30 to Sept 3 and have a few hundred in US dollars to exchange in Jamaican currency.

Should i convert in the states or wait til i arrive in Jamaica.

Any suggestions?

I've been to Jamaica 12 times. I used to take travelers checks and convert them at a local bank or the hotel. After the first 3 times, I just took US dollars. Most businesses, etc. accepted USD but your change will be in Jamaican currency.

Check the daily Gleener (newspaper) as they used to post the daily exchange rates. Also, your Jamaican exit tax will have to be in Jamaican currency. If needed, you can always exchange enough to cover the tax at the airport - saving you the fees of converting more money than necessary back to USD once you get back home.

I don't know your reason for being in Jamaica (business, vacation, just passing through), but their conversion fees (at a bank) have always been lower than US bank fees.

Everything (flight, hotel, activities, and bus transporation) will be online no worries. Im bringing in about 200 for food beverage and souvenirs. Should i convert that at the airport or local bank?

Anywhere except the airport. Simply compare rates when you arrive.

unless I'm mistaken, you should be able to pay in USD for whatever you want.. however.. you would likely get Jamaican Money back in change. Most of the Caribbean is this way.
