If anyone applying jobs sorting out references before leaving the UK?

Is there a need to ? Does anyone get asked for them?

I'm coming from the UK and the organisation I work for is a public service one, so getting a proper reference might be tricky and lengthy.

Hello

I dont know whether you will definetely need a reference or not' but i'm going over in september and going to ask my current employer for 1 anyway, it wouldn't hurt to take an extra piece of paper over just incase anyone does ask.

On one hand references are useless - they're easily forged and to be honest most jobs you'll be applying for just need a warm body and the employer will make that decision on-the-spot based on first impressions.

On the other hand having some additional documentation neatly presented/available in your job hunt folder obviously makes you appear more organized/serious than the next person in line, so it can't hurt.

Good luck.

Cheers,
