i can't decide on where to go, hamburg or berlin.
i'll be staying there for a week, eating german cuisine, drinking beer, exploring stuff and just enjoying myself.
and if i get to see women in dirndl's that would be really awesome.

i'll be going in late august.
is there any reason i should go to one city over another?

danke.
auf wiedersehen.

There's absolutely loads to see and do in Berlin, so you could easily occupy yourself for a week. It's got a great vibe about it - it's one of my favourite cities in the world! I haven't been to Hamburg and although I've heard good things about it I can't see that it would compare to Berlin.

I agree. Berlin has soooo much more to offer! If you want Germany Berlin will give you it, and it is awesome! I think that it is probably one of the best cities in Europe, let alone Germany. Really you will be lost after a week because you'll have so much choice of what to do you'll find it hard to cram it all in. You'll have an amazing experience and I don't doubt you will want to go back!!

Hello Steffen,

I also have to agree with my two predecessors: Berlin is magnificent and there is loads to see and do. Moreover: The weather is better. Hamburg is nice, but the weather in Hamburg isn't as nice as in Berlin. It's always some degrees warmer and more sunny. But you won't see women in dirndls - they are only in Bavaria, not in Berlin;)

Bitte und Tschüüüüüüüüs

so by the same token it would be inappropiate of me to walk around in a läderhosen...oh crap, i've always wanted one of those.
i guess i'll have to wait until i'll be able to visit oktoberfest.

does anybody know what temperatures one could expect in berlin in late august?

I loved Berlin! There is so much to do, brilliant underground metro system so really easy to get around. Awsome nightlife aswell. One of the top 3 cities i've been to!

Also i'd suggest doing a segway tour, takes about 4 hours, and you get to see most sights. Better than a bus tour by far :)

The free walking tours from the Brandenburg Gates are pretty interesting. Tip your guide well if you enjoyed it.
