Haven't done a whole lot in the past week in fairness - been pretty busy but it's always on the mind and I can't help but go off on one when I talk to people about it!!

Gathered a fair bit of advice of friends who have been or are currently on the run which is invaluable

Hope your well with your plans Natalie

EVERYONE I've ever spoke to regarding travelling says 'do it', 'best times of your life' etc

Think it's a given we've got to do it!

I'll post some of there comments on here and the places they went to soon

Hey guys i'm new to this site, came across this forum and figured this was the best site to join to talk with other travelers.
Like a few people on here I am definitely interested in traveling in 2014 and would so like to get in on the whole booking the trans Siberian as a group if possible because after reading your comments I am a bit anxious, don't get me wrong I have one other person with me, my partner, but I'd feel better and probably have even more fun to have a bunch of like minded people to go traveling, they all say traveling is a great way to make new friends and such.
Our budget will be around about 20000-24000 between two of us, I hope that will be enough :/. That's all depending on how disciplined we are with ourselves, makes it easier for us as our jobs include live in accommodation and meals free with it so our wages are our own. Do you guys think that budget will be okay?
But yer my travel plans are very very similar to Natalies and Maxihobbs so would love if we could arrange the trans Siberian together, and other people who have the same plans.
Our original plan was travel in 2013 but by doing thAT we'd have about 12000 between the two of us and wouldn't be able to do all the things we want. Hope to hear back :D

Hi there O Driscoll

Nice to hear another joining the 2014 club. I'd be more than happy to get a group booking - booking a time when we all want to go would be the hardest thing I think but I'm sure something can be sorted.

I think your budget of £12k each is ideal going by other posters - have a read of all the other threads, some invaluable information out there

Also your plan is very similar to mine and I believe Natalie's also which is great - exciting times lie in store

Heyyy guys i am so excited!

O Driscoll i think that is a great idea, like you i would feel tons better knowing we have four of us going. would be good.

also you are going pretty much the exact route i am going! haha

i am doing:

London - Paris France
Paris - Munich Germany
Munich - Berlin Germany
berlin - Krakow Poland
Krakow - warsaw Poland
Warsaw - St Petersburg Russia
Trans Siberian through Mongolia into Beijing China
then around China
China - Thailand
Thailand - India
India - Hong Kong
Hong Kong - Oz
Oz - Fiji
Fiji - New Zealand
New Zealand - Los Angeles (with a little 3 day trip to Vegas)
LA - San Francisco
San Francisco - New York
New York - London

:)

so we are doing very similar routes..

Max, i agree that it will be difficult to pinpoint exactly when we all want to go so i a going to start throwing some dates around; obviously this does mean we all need to book and i definately think we should book as a group but if i start putting rough dates then we can all sort of roughly start planning our respective trips around this group Trans Siberian railway date.. ok

so originally i wanted to leave London on September 8th 2014 because it is the end of the summer holidays so it will be cheaper than going in July or August and the weather will be kind of warm enough but then this threw up a few problems with regards to me ending up in China in December which would be FREEZING and is (according to most sites i have researched) the worst month to visit China.. i have come up with a new arrangement / plan which is as follows :

London - Paris
Paris - 7 days - 13th August 2014
Munich - 14 days - 17th august - 31st august
Berlin - 14 days - 31st august - 13th september
Poland - 14 days - 13th september - 27th september
RUSSIA MONGOLIA BEIJING TRANS SIBERIAN - 21 DAYS (ish) 27TH SEPTEMBER - 17TH OCTOBER

my plans continue past this onto the countries mentioned above on my list and i know it will be sort of cold in september to october but i have researched it and it is not too bad.. i am wiling to change the dates although not too much due to my budget relying on the last 3 or 4 months wages..

i am not saying everyone definately agree yes or no but that is my rough plan.. what do you all think? would you be happy to go around september time?

i am excited to hear your replies. this is all beginning to feel very real now :)

exciting times lay ahead of us guys!

hi again ok first of all sorry for such a long message above!

second :

''Max, i agree that it will be difficult to pinpoint exactly when we all want to go so i a going to start throwing some dates around; obviously this does mean we all need to book and i definately think we should book as a group but if i start putting rough dates then we can all sort of roughly start planning our respective trips around this group Trans Siberian railway date.. ok''

i was supposed to say ''...obviously this DOESNT mean we all need to book and...''

haha sorry!

To be fair I'm fairly open regarding dates if anything I'll probably have saved enough to go at the start of 2014 now if anything however, the longer I wait the more I can save!

It seems with our 3 plans combined we're bound to bump into each other in other cities around the world too!

My only problems so far is trying to fit in the Brazil 2014 World Cup which will be July time and preferably ending the trip in Oz so I can work there and live to conclude the travelling. Only issue with that is Oz is really right in the middle so I'll be doing some backtracking which adds a fair whack onto the price no doubt

Certainly keen to look into the Trans Siberian with fellow Brits though, I was more planning starting at Moscow rather than St Petersburg but once again open to change

Nice plan there Natalie, all coming together slowly but surely!

Ok well i would prefer to start my trip in September just because it will knock of quite a few £££ when i am visiting european countries..

although, it does sound like a plan is coming together doesnt it?

lets wait to see what o driscoll says and then we could potentially have a pencilled in date for the trans siberian.

if you wanted to go to start in Moscow then we could always meet you there? you could just do your thing and hop on in Moscow and we will do our thing and already be on it in St Petersburg.. i could even meet you in Moscow we could have a week or so there before continuing on.. these are all possibilities and i am pretty easy really..

oh yeh the world cup.. hmm yeah going back on yourself always adds on quite a lot of money so maybe you could plan around it instead? or perhaps just swallow the add on and see it as something you really want to do..?

i was looking into flights from india to hong kong to pick up a connecting flight to Oz and that was lots of money too so trying to find a way around it.

it is a little bit like taking 2 steps froward and 1 step back as my plans are really comming together but i am struggling a little bit in regards to how m,uch to book. i know you spoke to talesbackpack about this issue before and i have been reading back but i just dont know how much to book. i dont want to have everything booked and regimented but i also dontn want to be stuck in a country with nowhere to sleep!

hope you're ok.. not long now!

almost 2 years to the day we will be going! how exciting!
