Me and my girlfriend are looking to travel along the original route 66 in may next year. Has anyone done this before? How much did the whole thing cost you. We are looking to go for a month or so

Thank
Tom

Billy Connolly recently did a TV series where he rode the length of Route 66 from Chicago to LA, which is worth looking at if you can.

For those who may be unfamiliar with Billy Connolly, he is a Scottish comedian.

Info on the Route 66 trip he took is available via Wikipedia:

The best part of Route 66 still left is located in northern Arizona, between the cities of Williams, Arizona and Kingman Arizona. Make sure to stop along this route (you have to get off of the interstate (I-40) to visit it).

Also, be aware that the original Route 66 (US 66), which follows I-40 for the most part from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Barstow, California leaves the main interstate at Clines Corner, New Mexico and went north to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and then back down to the interstate at Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The entire trip from Chicago, Illinois to Los Angeles, California can be done in about 45 hours of driving--but to enjoy it (and to take sideline trips to the Grand Canyon and to Las Vegas), plan on doing it over a 12-14 day period.

Here is the best turn by turn website on 66. My Route 66 photos on the way to the Grand Canyon are on page 50-51 of my photo gallery. Good luck.
