Sneak preview of redesign :)

Travel Forums System Talk Sneak preview of redesign :)

I've been busy working on a redesign of the front page today. The main rationale behind the redesign is to optimally use screen space, provide more tools on the front page (rather than promotion) and make it more intuitive.. If anyone has feedback, NOW is the time - I will probably upload the fresh look in the next couple of weeks, so be quick!

Hey Pete,

Looks good....and of course I kind of like that box on the left.... Did notice that the page looked a little weird a couple of times where it pushed all the information to the left, maybe it has something to do with the photo size?

Oh, and there is no Links link.... I still like the idea of scooting over the Newest Travel Log and putting the Links link (and the photo gallery link) more prominently down there at bottom right....you could even use those boxes you made earlier?

Interesting new letter type by the way :)

Cheers,

Sam

Hi Peter,

I'm glad that you retained the minimalist approach to the layout, but I do agree with Sam that it does look kinda weird with the expanded page. It would be necessary to maximise page space if it was dealing lots of info, news, etc. But when there's lots of blank spaces left over; design may look a bit loose. I would also appreciate if you could seperate (e.g in boxes or bullet points?)the names of continents (under travel help)so that we won't accidently click on the wrong names.

Can't wait to see the new design though, Peter.Good luck and thanks for hearing us.

I made some more changes.. thanks for your feedback suzy - I've separated the different regions for travel help a little, to stop from clicking on the wrong one accidentally - hopefully that's a bit better.

I've also come up with a new way of handling the login area, which I think is a lot more balanced and nice

The reason I've gone for the broader approach is that there is actually quite a lot of information on some pages (forum, etc..) and having a broader space will allow me to make the font size slightly larger - this will of course help those who don't have as good eyesight as myself (or those wanting to make sure they keep a good eyesight ;)).

Any more feedback is welcome - I anticipate launching the 'new look' within the next week.

Hey Pete,

I like it.... very nice touch. One relatively big thing though....when you are now logged in you can't access any of your own pages :) Guess you might still be working on that though. Oh, and it asks you if you want to be a member when you are logged in...bit of a paradox I think :)

And you seem to have fixed whatever glitch was all of a sudden dumping all the info on the left of the screen (I think it depended on the photos).

Cheers,

Sam
ps. keep up the good work bro!

Glad you're liking it.. I still have to work out where to put the links to the members pages, probably also in a similar blue box on the left when logged in and YES, the joining up question would also not be visible ;)

I found that glitch that was causing the page to shift, so it should all be stable now.
