G'day

My name is Chelsea and im from Leeds. Me and my other half are travelling to Brisbane in february. We already have our flights, visas and accomadation sorted. The next step is insurance. I wondered if anyone knew any good insurance sites?

Also i know i sound cheeky as anything, but how much money is everyone planning on taking?

I'm really stressing out at the moment as i dont want to get to the airport to be told we dont have enough funds and be sent home i would be devasted!

As well as travelling i will also be working.

Anyone else going at the same time and worrying over money etc ha!

Thanks
Chelsea

Where are you going first Alan?
You off on your own?

We were thinking roughly £8000 which would work at £4000 each.

But we are planning on working aswell. We already have our accomodation sorted so we have somewhere to sleep.

How much you thinking of taking?

www.insuremytrip.com tends to be a good insurance site, I know I've never had problems with it :)

I was not greatly impressed with Brisbane so went to the Gold Coast just south of there which is far better:

Insurance sites are pretty much of a sameness so look at benefits and prices.

Money depends on what kind of lifestyle and accommodation you want. How long do you plan on spending there that £8,000 might not be enough?

You cannot work in Australia unless you have a work visa. They do send people back who break this rule. Do not try and bring any kind of food through customs. They profile people so if you are nervous, if you scratch an itch, eyes keep wandering, etc they will pull you aside for questioning. If you have nothing to hide, just be yourself and you have nothing to worry about.

Alan. Yes, take a break in Thailand first as Australia is a very long trip in one go. You get 30 days visa free in Thailand and it is very cheap there.

For budget accommodation, try hostelbookers who also do hotels, etc.

Like me you may not think much of Brisbane so want to go elsewhere so maybe book just a few days upfront?

A car is handy in Australia and they drive on the left there too.

Just booked into hostels for the time being. Ah were thinking off heading to Thailand after Oz doing the opposite to you really ha.

We do have work visas so we are ok to work.
We wont be living beyond our means. Maybe work for a couple of month and then have a couple of weeks holiday and enjoy the places we go. 'work hard, play harder type of thing'.
We will probably be budget conscience as i know we want to enjoy our travels but dont really want to be heading home after 3 month cause we ran out of money.

I feel better about customs now as neither of us have nothing to hide :-) thanks for the advice x
