anyone fancy taking the hanoi to beijing train and spending a couple of weeks in china? i reckon i'll be in hanoi from around about 10th november, so will probably get a train around 14-15th november. i plan on starting an organised tour from kunming on 28th nov, so it would literally be a couple of weeks checking out beijing, great wall, shanghai, xian (terracotta warriors), and a giant buddha in a place called leshan. then i'd have to get to kunming for the tour, but if anyone fancies a two week chinese adventure then that would be cool!

gotta go, joey

Of course, Wocca lives in Kunming ... "The City of Eternal Spring". Should still be around in November / December 2005

I'm planning on taking a similar tour but in July/August. Anyone know what the weather's like then?

Middle of summer. Very hot & dry in northern China

hi guys. um, firstly, i reckon (if i definitely decide to go to china... still umming and ahhing about the weather!) that i would most likely be in beijing from about the 16th/17th november until 23rd november. give myself plenty of time for the wall etc. then onto xian, and then down south to kunming for the intrepid tour which starts on 28th november.

secondly, i am a little concerned about the weather. it says it can get to as low as minus 20 in beijing! that sounds scary to me! coming from se asia i won't have much in the way of warm clothing. will it be possible to buy decent gear in vietnam?

thirdly... how i would get a chinese visa?? i'm assuming this could be arranged in vietnam at a chinese consulate, or even through a travel agent? anyone know anything about that?

i would love to go to china for a month so someone please tell me to stop worrying about the weather and tell me that getting a visa in vietnam is a piece of cake!!

samsara, if i make it to china i would love to meet up with you in beijing!

wocca what kind of weather can i expect in yunnan area in november and december? as cold as the north?

cheers guys,

joey

You only need one day for The Great Wall

It's mainly thermal underwear you'll need. Clothing is quite cheap in China.

Contact your own nearest Chinese Embassy or Consulate. Otherwise a travel office in Hanoi can arrange it for you.

You've just said it for yourself , Joey

What does "INTREPID" mean?

Why do you think Kunming is known as "The City Of Eternal Spring?"

December can get mildly cool in Yunnan, but heaven compared to northern China.

Kunming has over 4 million people. You'll be able to get whatever you need from there or whatever other parts of China you'll be in.
