Visit Thailand. Many women go there alone and have a good time. But if you are looking mostly for hookups stick with Phuket or even Bali, Indonesia. Otherwise, Thailand is a good place to visit. A little more rain in September but most of the time the rain stops in a few hours. Popular with women is Chiang Mai and Phuket. But Bangkok is also worth a visit and it is cheaper than Phuket for transportation and hotels. If you have never been to Asia before visit Thailand first!

Thailand has good transportation, hotels in all price ranges, good food - you can eat cheap or eat in fancy posh places. Up to you.

Figure out how much money you will have left over after paying for your plane ticket and determine how much per day you have for living expenses including hotels. You can ask for hotel recommendations in your price range.

Tourism is big business for Thailand. Excellent rail service from the airport up to midnight and meter taxis available 24 hours a day. Money wise Thailand is cheaper than Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and Australia. You will get more return for you money. Best time to visit Thailand for weather is November through February but also the most expensive for hotels and closer to Christmas/New Years holidays plane tickets are usually more expensive too.

From Thailand you can also go overland to Laos and Cambodia too. There is even a train from Bangkok to Singapore going through Malaysia if you want something different. Singapore is more expensive than both KL and Bangkok.

I have £2000 only and I really want to take a month off work and backpack in September. £2000 is my absolute budget including flights from england. I am female, 25yrs and will be going alone.

You might want to spend less and walk the Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain, from Roncesvalles or Pamplona to Santiago de Compostela. A mere 500 miles and it can be done in approx. 30 days! September is a good time (Camino Francés), you'll meet "pilgrims" from all over the world as you get along, and it won't cost you an arm and a leg. You can Google the Camino de Santiago or the Confraternity of St. James (in London). This might seem less "exotic" than far-away places to you, but it definitely will change the way of looking at life.:)

Turkey or Egypt. Plenty of culture, plenty of nice beaches.

Yes, I fully agree with you about Turkey or Egypt. Both countries offer affordable hotels, but from my point of view service is better in Turkey.

I was in Istanbul and Tbilisi last fall - both are wonderful places, prices affordable and great food. Turkey is modern in Istanbul but I think the rest of the country is still developing. Georgia is old Europe with modern conveniences - a really nice thing is that it's also very uncrowded. I traveled from Istanbul SAW to Tbilisi TBS on Pegasus Airlines, and stayed in this wonderful guesthouse in Old Town Tbilisi.
