I like cyclos (pedal rickshaws) too, but I'm not fond of their scamming practices. I've been on at least 10 cyclo rides in VN, and was scammed about 75% of the time!

VN's large cities have much too much, totally unorganized, traffic to rent a moto there - many say the Central Highlands are the place to try them (the wide open spaces). I use my own 2 feet to explore the cities (the main reason I like Hanoi far more than Saigon, it's more compact).

You might enjoy these traffic videos of

Hanoi

and Saigon

I found that as long as I agreed a price beforehand I was generally ok; the one time I didn't the driver tried to rip me off for a huge amount and became quite aggressive. There were also a couple of occasions when we agreed on 15,000 dong and they claimed I'd said 50,000, or other amounts that sound similar such as 13,000 and 30,000, so watch out for that trick!

I also much preferred Hanoi - it's a much prettier city then HCMC, with far more interesting things to see and do in my opinion.

Hi
i agree with most of the comments from Daawgon. A useful tip is to make sure you use proper taxis when leaving airports and major transport hubs. Milyn or Vinasun taxis only. The food is great i ate off the street all the time. Many a cheap resturant and hotel in the French (Old) quater in Hanoi. -snip- It's a great country

Have you ever travelled by cycling ?

I like cycling and Hue city is a good place for cycling because there are a lot of beautiful and quiet streets far away from center city. I did enjoy this cycling trip so much. I love to ride bicycle through Thuy Bieu village and enjoy the natural during trip. -snip- However, It is very poor if raining. So should check the weather before organize cycling trip.
