My husband and I recently married this year and we are looking at going on a honeymoon early next year to the Greek Islands. Is anyone able to suggest the best islands to visit, the best time of year to go (we are looking at around March/April at this stage) and also how much money we should be looking at saving?
If anyone has any tips that would be great!
I stayed on IOS for 2 months in 2010. This is quite a party island with loads of small bars etc. Depending on the type of people you are and what you want to do, it may be something to consider for a few days. We also went to Santorini which I would highly recommend. Beautiful scenery, plenty of restaurants also. You can get ferries in and out from the islands which gives you the option of seeing the coast.
I was doing it on the cheap so couldnt really advise on prices. If saying in Ios though, Lofos hotel is absolutely fabulous. Stavros is the owner and is such a great help. The islands overall are stunning, get to see local people coming and going, learning about their history etc.
Hope this is of some help,
Cyprus (south) is OK.
Protaras in the south east is good. Some good beaches, bars and eating places and it's quiet too, But only a few miles away is busy Aiya Napa.
Tours available on the island or cruises elsewhere. Car hire is cheap.
March/April has variable weather. They can be cold, windy and very wet.
May to June is a lot better. The Greek islands get very hot in summer.
If you want good weather in March to April, try the Canaries or Madeira.
Santorini and Rhodes are the ideal places in Greece for a couple!
Ios, mentioned above, is mostly for young people who want to drink big amounts of alcohol :P
Santorini is very beautiful and romantic.
