Hello fellow travellers,

I need your help please. We are sailing on a cruise to Western Mediterranean this month end.
Our ship's port of call are

1) Palma de Mallorca (Cruise Start)
2) Marseille (France)
3) Ibiza
4) Malaga
5) Gibraltar
6) Barcelona
7) Palma de Mallorca (Cruise End)

We will be doing the shore excursions on our own as the one arranged by Cruise line are very
expensive (this is what I have found out from various reviews). Private Taxis are always an option,
but as I am on a budget, I would like to know what various modes of cheap transportation are available
to get into the above town/city from the port where our ship will be docked. We are a family of
2 adults and 1 child (8 years).

Also, as our flights are from Palma de Mallorca (PMI), I would like to know if there is any local
bus service that runs between airport and the port ?

Your valuable advice / suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Apart from transportation, any
tips on cruising (dos / don'ts) or anything on the above cities (must see) from your past experience
will also be very helpful as we are cruising first time.

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers

To quote:

Most vacationers booked on cruises from Palma arrive at the airport, which is well served by low-cost flights from all over Europe. The easiest way of traveling from the airport to the cruise port is by taxi or shuttle coach. An alternative is to catch the number 1 bus which runs from the airport through Palma center to reach the Estacion Maritima. After alighting from the bus walk into the Estascion Number 2 terminal opposite then follow the signs to the applicable terminal.

But possibly you could share a taxi with others?

Cruises do make up their money with expensive excursions. Often you can get a taxi into town and then wander around yourself though with places like Malaga, there is quite a lot of it so you should know where you are going, whereas with Gibraltar, it's quite compact and not a lot to do other than a cable car up the rock and walk down. They use English money there.

Barcelona has a good metro system for getting around as well as buses, but remember it is the pick pocket capital of Europe.

Print off some B&W maps of these places and mark off on them what you want to see.

Try a Caribbean cruise some time. They are excellent and there are always bargains available on the travel channel, online, in newspapers, etc.

Hi Cyberia

Thanks very much for taking time out to reply to my post and for providing the information in detail.

Palma : The information you have provided is the one I was looking for as I was wondering how do we manage the transfer between airport and port. So thank you so much for this.

I couldn't agree any more with you that cruises make their money with expensive excursions. That was the reason why we decided that we will do the excursions on our own.

Barcelona : Thanks for warning us beforehand to take care of our valuable stuff.

I will google to get the maps of these places that would help us to get some idea.

Thanks for the wonderful suggestion of Caribbean Cruise. I will add this in my future travel plans.

Cheers:)
