Hey everyone, there seems to be some really nice people on this convo so just thought I'd join in! By the sounds of it most you girls are looking to work while you're away? Are you looking to do some traveling as well?
I'm just going traveling as have studies to carry on with at home so can only afford to take a short break (well I'm planning on 4 months which actually doesn't sound so short when you think about the traveling alone!)
It's so nice to read that there are so many other people who just go for it by themselves, as when I first had the idea of going traveling, it wasn't feasible for my friends and the initial thought of going by myself just scared the hell out of me, but I think I've decided that if you don't just go for it you'll never end up doing it!
Anyways if anybody does fancy a chat then add me on FB, Chelsea Emett (quite an original name and I'm sure I'm the only one!) Would be lovely to just talk to people who are going away by themselves, get any advice from anyone who's already been away!!
And I so did not realise that was such a British thing with the 'x', I do it after every message (even accidentally to my boss!!!) without even thinking!
I totally agree, this forum is great and there are some lovely people I've spoken to already and I only joined today!!
I am going to Aus just to travel, I have the whv just as a backup in case I want to stay longer than 3/4 months and work a bit to supplement waning money!!
When are you thinking of going out there, and which city first?

I'm travelling on the 23rd of September from Heathrow to Sydney and have just booked 3 days in a hostel for when I get there. Apart from that I have nothing planned. I was scared about going on my todd but think it will be fine. Plus I'm too excited to worry now.
Would be great to meet some of you when you are out there.
Hi Emma, I'm Ffion who plans to travel from Heathrow to Sydney on or about 5th Oct. I plan to book a week with Ultimate Oz then who knows. I've already got my working holiday visa.
I too already have my WHV. Just over 3 weeks to go. Would be good to arrange to meet up or do some travelling while we are out there. Is re-assuring that so many people are going on their own.
Looks like there are quite a few in the same boat as myself. Im 21 from Alberta and will be getting into Melbourne Sep 7. I leave tomorrow and I don't know what to expect. Ive got a few days at BASE Melbourne booked but after that is open ended. I'm going on a WHV until the end of december.
I'm going Mid to end of Nov. I know a few people there but going to stay in a hostel as I want to meet others. Going to Sydney. I know that money here is worth nothing out there, so I'm not going to bother saving too hard before I go, just focus on getting straight back into work when I'm there. The cost of living is about double what it is here, but the wages match it, so basically, savings won't go a long way but working will. I was looking at the Wake Up Hostel looks the best but the most expensive too.
I didnt have time to read the whole thread but im also a 1st time traveller, going it alone too, broke up with my boyfriend after already booking my flight so a little petrified if im honest ha ha.. eek!
i arrive at Brisbane airport on the 7th of November as i've seen a hostel by southport beach thats $17.95AUD (CHEAP!) + looks niiiiiice
Get in touch, would love the company, need to find work too..
Aaaalso, it's my birthday on the 8th and wanna celebrate with a few draanks if you fancy it :-P x x x
Glad to know that so many girls are embarking on solo trips to Australia (makes me less worried). I'm from Singapore and I'll be heading to Melbourne alone for a week from November 13 - November 20 and besides the booking for the flights, I have not booked anything else and is currently doing tons of research for this trip. It's my first solo trip so I'm excited and worried at the same time.
Will share a tip or two on my findings and hope to get in touch with other solo travelers too!
I will be going to Sydney on the 27th December this year on my own and spending NY in sydney and then going from there.
Michelle- I'm in a very similar situation to you, although i've travelled alone before so it wont be my first time, I was booked to go with my bf too and we have now broken up (but im still going) so im suddenly getting used to the idea of travelling alone again!! It's really good fun on your own though and everyones in the same boat. I've found ive always met more friends when im on my own.
If anyone is going to be in Sydney around New Years it would be great to hear from you!
