Hi all,

Me and my boyfriend are at the beginning of organising a trip to North America, and in need of some advice.

I have been to America several times before, usual touristy places, NY, Orlando, and Vegas. So they aren't high priority, well maybe NY as I wasn't 21 when I went haha.

We are from the U.K, and will both be 23/24 at the time (July next year) but we only have maximum 6 weeks as I will be returning to uni in September for my masters, is it possible travel and see a lot in such a short space of time?

We have devised a VERY basic plan of where we would like to go to, but any suggestions would be great :)

We are hoping to fly from Manchester, with us being from Liverpool its closer but thinking maybe Heathrow may give us more options?
We would like to fly to the east and then fly home from the west, hopefully.

anyway, some of the places we would like to go are:

Miami, anywhere else in Florida people would recommend? Besides Orlando?
New York.
Washington DC- anywhere else around here we should see also?
Boston
Chicago- anywhere else people would suggest in Illinois?
Id love to see the great lakes as well, but not sure where from, suggestions?
Same for the Rockys, where would people recommend?
California.
I would go back to Vegas if it was on a route we where travelling, but not for too long as I spent a small fortune last time haha.

I'm not sure what's the best way to get around, drive, coach, fly, train? Although I would be the driver and the thought of driving on the wrong side of the road scares me.

And places to stay? Is there many hostels are they cheap/safe etc?

Anyway, thanks in advance and sorry for all the questions and the vagueness of this post.

Becs

xx

Your questions cover a MASSIVE amount of real estate and issues. Which guide book are you using and what's your budget?

Cheers,

Our budget is roughly £4000 that's not including international flights x

I was going to say 'that's ok', but then I remembered the transport costs. I imagine a Greyhound pass would be the cheapest, but even then, I'd think you'd need more like $180.-$200. a day. I don't know exactly how many hostels there are in this county, but I do know that there are far far less than the number in Europe.

Maybe a month would be more reasonable? Summer is an expensive time to travel anywhere. I don't think you could possibly afford air travel, and rail is so slow that you'd never get anywhere!
Do you know about Green Tortoise Tours (bus) - just for youth like you.
