"The same could be said of Mexicans working in the US, but there is still 11 million of them giving it a go!"

You are right! In the US illegal aliens are considered heroes by liberal politicians! They go out of their way to give them free EBT cards, put them in public housing ahead of US citizens - even some of these same politicians want to give them free tuition for college! Often illegals have cars without insurance, no inspection stickers and they have no drivers licenses. But some states want to even give them free licenses - doesn't matter if they know how to drive properly! (With a free license they can sneak in to vote and vote for the guy who gives them more free stuff!)

Catch and release - just like fishing!

What a life! In my next life just treat me like an illegal alien in the US and I will be happy!

But in Thailand you will be deported and your embassy will pay the freight and give you the the bill later.

So you get all your information from a news source that is basically republican propaganda?, or didn't you realize the trash they feed you is only one sided? Do little research and find out exactly what illegal immigrants do for the US economy. You wont see any of those rich republican farmers and processing companies that lobby to keep immigration officials out of their business, complaining about illegals.

And what makes them illegal? being born on another piece of dirt a few hundred miles from where you were born. And your father and his father, how far do you go back before you find that your family was an immigrant family too. part of the white migration that stole the lands from the native Indians. Aren't you as illegal as anyone else? Oh no thats right they paid them off with some beads, so you have a perfect right, to sit on your high horse and look the other way when illegals do the jobs you don't want to do, but then cry and whine about why the country is in a mess. has nothing to do with illegals, has everything to do with big republican business that rape's that country for everything it can get. Your buddy with Halliburton is one you should look at.

There are plenty of careers that enable people to walk into a job and 6 months later walk out and then do it again 6 months after that, graphic design comes to mind as one. A lot of those people are on contracts anyway. Worrying about a job with a pension is ridiculous. These people are young and want to experience the world now. You are so totally out of touch.......

Yeah, sure lots of them! All over the place! Too many young people have no care about their future - just the minute at hand! Many of the skills some travelers have when they want to "experience the world now" is only flipping burgers at Mickey D's or living off of mommy and daddy's money!

When I was young I was working overseas at times. Collecting a salary, adding to my pension for my retired years, having my company pay for my college too! Liked the job so much I made a career of it!

"I'm not sure why you are on a backpackers forum."

Thought this was a travel advice forum! Guess all those questions from travelers wanting expensive hotels and all inclusive travel must be parents of backpackers!

Whoah there guys...this is turning ugly haha...

although to be honest I am turning 26 and have already been travelling for just over 3 years although the vast majority was in Australia and new zealand. I dont really care about my pension now...ill worry about it later! As i have done with most things in life and its worked out fine haha...

I am a web developer so I was thinking I could do that although I have never done it freelance so I guess my main worry is that I wont get any clients or because of my travelling nature clients will not want to go with me or I'll be too far away to be able to meet them etc...but I guess the only way to find out is to try? Also gonna get the TEFL just incase...I think that would provide lots of opportunity...

I guess I'll just risk getting deported?

Hello happy forumers...

I was thinking about going back to Thailand but spending like a REALLY long time there...ideally 6 months to 1 year...

I definitely wont have enough money when I get there (I'm thinking arrive with between £2000 and £3000) though and will be looking for work after a while...

What is best for english speaking people? I've seem some people doing promo for bars etc but this is generally women, so dont think there will be much there for me. I can DJ but didnt think that I would be able to get that much money from it anyway? Would it be hard to maybe get a job teaching english without having a TEFL (although I'm only planning on going in like 8 months anyway so could consider getting this).

Generally though I guess I wanted an opinion from other people just to see how hard it can be or if you had to change your flight home to an earlier date sort of thing...

Any advice appreciated

Thanks!

Matt

Seriously Matt, that's awesome.
Actually i have a friend who work part time during night time, as a bartender in the small bar near his university. And, you know what? he made a good earning just by doing 6 hours work per day (from 8 PM to 2 AM). It's just small bar, imagine bout what you could get in the more famous bars?

Simply a good option to try.

I've been here in Thailand 16 years Matt, going on 17 - your chances of making a decent living as a DJ here in Thailand is slim. Also, I have only seen one or two foreigners working as a bartender in Thailand and they either owned the bar or got lucky working for a friend, probably illegally.

Also, remembering that your working here in illegal, you are somewhat limited. Your best bet, and I know it sounds cliche, is to find a job doing something that is portable; graphic design, website building, etc.

LOL! what the hell is goin on with that last post...its exactly what I wrote in an earlier post but with a few words changed...

WORD TO THE MODS...i think you got a few bots lurking around here creating accounts and making posts...maybe add some form of captcha at least to the sign up process.

The funny thing is they normally do it for advertising but there isnt an advert...wierd...

That is what spammers do nowadays in order to appear legitimate; they copy/paste (with word substitution) from other pages they find by searching for some keywords. Then once they've created a few posts in that manner, they drop a spam link, hoping that it'll remain since they now have a history of "good" posts.

Are you talking about scottmallo's post, or about a post that's since been removed? If scottmallo's post, let me know and I'll flag it as duplicate for an Asia forum moderator to delete.
