How to use the map?

Travel Forums System Talk How to use the map?

Hi,
I am a little confused. How do I use the map feature?
Say I am going for around the world trip in a few weeks. Do I need to add my entire plan route to the map ahead of time? What if I don't know the specific cities I am going to be in?
After writing an entry in a blog, is my location automatically added to the map? Do I need to first add it to the map and then associate the entry to the place?

I tried searching for a tutorial, but couldn't find any..

Thanks in advance,
Yatir

Hi Yatir,

You don't have to input all of your route before you leave. Some people use the map to plan roughly where they would like to go but then change the stops later as the trip unfolds. You can add stops to your travel map as you go by selecting the little box with the plus sign ( + ) in the map editing view.

You can also map your blog entries after they have been posted. This is from the FAQs:

Go to your Control Panel and select "Update Your Trips". Once you have reached your map management page, select "Map my entries". To add an entry to your map, you need to edit the entry and specify the period of travel to which the blog refers (eg. Describes Travel from 2004-07-03 until 2004-07-15). Hit "Publish". This will add the blog entry to the corresponding leg of your trip.

You can also choose to automatically map your photos when uploading them.

Hope this helps!

Thanks.

So I figure out how to map my entries, how to add a zoomed map to an entry, and how to put in the top part of the blog. The problem now is that the map in the start of the blog is always fiexed on the atlantic ocean. Can I change it? Can I make it change automatically depending on what entry the reader is reading, depending on where I am?

Hmm I haven't been able to replicate the same. The map on your blog looks correct to me but maybe there is someone else that can help?

Hi yatiraya,

When you insert a map into an entry, you can set the center of it. When you insert it at the top of your blog for all your pages, it will automatically try and work out the center. Sometimes it does get this wrong. It won't however center based on your latest entry or anything like that.

I see you have it both at the top and in your entries. I'd suggest just using the map in your entries if you're going to do that and not having it at the top as well.

Hope that helps!
