I'm thinking of doing Singapore as a lay over between the UK and Sydney.

First anyone going to be around between 24-28 and any good hostels that anyone can recomend?

I'm nervous never done anything like this before etc.

I'm not a big fan of Singapore, it just feels like any western city, which can be good or bad I guess. Good that everyone speaks English, they leave you alone, everything is easy, bad in all the same ways! It's just not Asia. If you can, look for flights that have a layover in either Bangkok or K/L. Or maybe consider taking extra time and take a train from Singapore up to K/L, or somewhere on the way.

If you do end up staying in Singapore, I found Hostel ONE66 to be a laid back little hostel. Its basically an apartment that a really helpful young Singaporean guy has turned into a hostel. Its further out of town, but I also liked this, as the food markets seemed more legit then anything in town. You can find the hostel on the accommodations button on this website.

I stayed at a hostel called the Inn Crowd which is run by a really helpful and friendly young couple. There is a little bar on site so it's quite a sociable place, and they organise excursions around the city for guests.

If you can fly for the same price with a layover in Bangkok your hotel expenses will be less. Thailand is cheaper than Singapore. A small, no name hotel with A/C and private toilet, even in Bangkok can be found in the 600 baht - 700 baht range. My opinion, Singapore is a nice place to visit but a little sterile by being more functional over fun.
