Hi there.....I am looking forward so much to my holiday in Paris in May 2005. I would love to stay in the 1st,2nd or 3rd districts.I stayed in Rue Rambuteau on my last visit. I am looking for a hotel for myself and my friend at about Euro 30 each per night. We will be staying five weeks. Can anyone make a recommendation? Somewhere near Metro Chatelet or Les Halles. Please help. Merci Beaucoup. Jackie

Hi Jackie,
I stayed in the Hotel Violet on Rue Jean Lantier in the Chatelet area.
It's 3 star, so might be a bit over your budget, but if you're sharing and you look around for deals, you never know.
It's in a quiet street, so you get a good night's sleep, but it's only yards around the corner to where everything else is.

Well, I have a recommendation and a semi-recommendation :)

Recommendation: Centre BVJ Paris Louvre - it's a hostel but it has double rooms so you can have privacy with your friend. For a private it's 28 euros a night per person. It's right between the Louvre and Les Halles....get off at the Louvre Rivoli metro.

Semi-recommendation: Hotel de la Vallee - it's right between Les Halles and the Centre Pompidou. I haven't stayed there yet, but that's where my friend and I are looking to stay in our upcoming trip to Paris in April. It's about the same price per night per person as the hostel above. I believe the closest metro station is Les Halles.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Katie ;)
