Brilliant thanks for your advide Jen... We are quite inexperienced to be completly honest but starting our travels in four weeks so hopefully would of learnt alot by the time we arriive in India. I think as long as we do some pre research we should be fine it's just a little worrying when hearing so many different stories from people.

Thanks!!

hi bex..
pepper spray, just as a precaution ...since you are in a fairly large group with a guy as well, you will be ok.
i much preferred the beaches in south goa- palolem, colva etc...not as crowded and not as spoilt as the more popular ones--anjuna(the original hippie beach of the 70's), calangute etc...the only beach i liked in north goas was vagator...in goa, you can hire bikes/mopeds etc at relatively cheap prices so transport shouldnt be a problem...a lil to the south there is this place called hampi..in karnataka...a small town which i really loved.if you do have the time, make a lil trip there too!
i am currently in brisbane and if you guys are around this neck of the woods and want to catch up for a beer, lemme know aight? i can tell you of numerous other places to visit in india///to the uninitiated, there is this novel called shantaram by gregory david roberts which apart from a good read, gives you a foreigners insight on india!!

Hi Friend
I spent many years travelling through India with my friend . We used the trains and by feet for all our travel. It was very easy and convenient. Just a couple of tips I would recommend just based on our experience. In advance book - the railways is super busy in India so may not always get the right day .There are quite a few different classes. It depending on when you travel/class etc, they are not as cheap as you may think but cheaper than flying, but your budget seems adequate anyway.

so now enjoy! and it is an amazing country because in india diffirent-2 type's people live. OK thanks.
