Me and a friend are going to Australia for hopefully a year. We have a stop over in Singapore and are spending a few days there.
It is not around the world ticket as we are more interested in Aus at the moment. So i was wondering if we have the funds and want to see some other countries reasonably close, what are the likely destinations we can go to that are not too ambitious?
I know Thailand should be quite easy but does anybody know the average cost and websites that have low cost airlines? (Maybe our equivalent to ryan air etc).
New Zealand and many of the Pacific islands are around 3 -4 hours flight away from the East Coast of Australia. The Pacific Islands are a great place to escape to when it's winter in Oz; I'd recommend Rarotonga and Samoa. Indonesia (Bali) is around 5 hours away. Pacific Blue are a good budget airline in the region and (unless this has changed since I was there) serve all of the above destinations from Australia. Also check out Jetstar.

Thanksyou, anybody else have any suggestions and experience on costs from Aus to Thailand? Not sure whereabouts in Aus just yet though.
Anyone been to Fiji from there?
if you're flying out from singapore, the budget airlines you're looking at, will most probably be tiger airways, jetstar, scoot air, airasia.
