Thanks for all your replies.

I have now booked my flights and will be landing in Chiang Mai on 5th Jan.

From there I will do North Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia then back to Thailand to do the southern Islands.

I have arount 4 months to do this trip so not in any rush.

Anyones plans similar?

Hi Charly,

Nice idea, I will visit Vietnam this November, then back to Germany and want to travel to back to Vietnam in mid February. Would be great if we all could join for days, week or nearly whole trip. I am not interested in Laos, but Thailand and Cambodia definitely yes.
So I would suggest you do Thailand first, then in Feb come to Vietnam and we may join from then on? The more join the funnier and better it will be.

Wish you a nice trip.

Just letting you all know, traveling in Southeast Asia to those counties is like backpacker heaven. The routes are all setup already by other backpackers: buses, trains and flights run frequently. If by some chance you don't meet up with each other, then I wouldn't let that stop you! I was able to travel to several of those countries on my own (first time backpacking) and never had ANY issues.

Just words of encouragement, don't worry too much about traveling on your own if you have to!
