Downloading photos from a camera bought in Central America

Hi all

I bought a camera in Central America and when it came to downloading the photos onto my UK laptop I found that it wouldn't work, almost like the laptop couldn't 'see' the files.

It is possible to view them on the camera's viewfinder so I know they exist!

Any ideas? I'm not sure if cameras/memory sticks vary in the format they use and whether it is possible to download software to convert them to a recognisable format?

Thanks in advance

There shouldn't be any difference in format, but you might need some software on your laptop to download them to that. Or use a mac; that should work without requiring software ;)

What brand camera was it?

On rare occasion plugging your camera directly into your computer (including Macs) will confuse it; without the camera software downloaded onto the computer this can sometimes cause some hassles.

Simply use a card reader instead. Almost all new-ish laptops have them built-in, if yours doesn't then an external card reader that plugs into a USB port is very inexpensive.

Good luck.
