Basically i'm looking to go travelling early next year around end of February time, we've got a list of countries these being;

1. Australia
2. Thailand
3. New Zealand
4. Bali
5. America; Hawaii, L.A, Miami.
6. Fiji

Was just wondering what an average living cost would be for things like hostels and food. Just an average comparison of the costs compared too England will be greatly appreciated!

I am convinced there was a response in these forums recommending US$100 a day as a guide but I can't find it now :(

I did a quick search for accommodation in Melbourne (as an example) in February and found there are hostels with beds available for £20-25, some with free breakfast included. Eating cheaply you can get away with meals for less than £7 but an average meal at a restaurant may be closer to £25. A bottle of water/soft drink averages £2-4 and a beer is £4.50-6.50, though you can always be charged more in some establishments! Shopping at grocery stores can cut your meal costs but I would always add a little extra to your budget for transport, activities and incidental expenses.

New Zealand is similar in costs to Australia and of course you'll find Thailand and Bali a lot cheaper - away from the tourist hotspots!
