Hi
I am meeting my boyfriend in thailand after quite a long separation we just want to hit the beach and chill for a couple of months to start with. I was in Koh pangnan 5 years ago and there was a gorgeous travellers secret with a few huts and a restaurant and a beautiful beach with just a handful of travellers. I know that was a while ago though and i have heard that since then thailand has become much more built up around the beaches. Does anyone know anywhere that is still pretty untouched? And what is Koh Pangnan like now has it been developed like koh samui. If you don`t want to post untouched places on a forum just email me - [email protected] - also if you know koh pangnan well then i will let you know the place i went 5 years ago and maybe you can tell me if it is stil the way it was.
Thanks a lot any help would be really usefull.
cheers
daisy

I was in Ko Pha Ngan a couple of months ago at Haad Rin and the beach was quite busy when I was there. the town is still fairly small but a lot of the bungalows were often fully booked out.

I was there when the tsunami happened though, so I think many travellers who had planned to go to the West coast headed for the East coast instead, so it may have been unusually busy.

From speaking to other people though, it sounded like most of the other beaches on Ko Pha Ngan were still really quiet.

Koh Chang was really quiet and beautiful a couple of years back but it is starting to develop now. If itis too busy though you can head off to other islands nearby like Koh Kut. I think you will find everywhere in Thailand a lot more developed than it was 5 years ago, but the islands in the north east are probably where the least visitors head at the moment.

huntdaisy 1;
Why don't you consider the Krabi area? Many of the visitors that would be in Phuket and Krabi area have gone to Samui, Pha Ngan, Pattaya. The tsunami caused many cancellations and diversions from the Krabi side. It is very pretty, plenty of smaller Islands that are not as well known as Pha Ngan and should be cheaper due to fewer visitors. I would go to Krabi and ask about less visited Islands close by. Phi Phi maybe quiet now as well. Worth a look.

I was on Koh Chang last month. The infamous "Tree House Lodge" at Lonely Beach has to move soon. They've already commenced building at Long Beach on the southern end of Koh Chang. If you want to check it out, here's their webpage:

Otherwise, as daveh mentioned, there are other smaller islands such as Koh Kood, Koh Kam, Koh Maak, Koh Rung in the Koh Chang national marine park. It's easy to get a boat to any of these islands from Koh Chang.

Try this email address for information about accommodation on Koh Kood. Mayo says they check their email every three (3) days:

There is one day snorkelling tour available from Koh Chang, which goes around 4 - 5 islands. You could consider that first once you get to Koh Chang.
