Clara, your fears about Mexico and Bolivia illustrate exactly what I've been trying to explain to Samantha.
There are absolutely no-go zones in Mexico, but if one chooses to include it on their travel itinerary then Mexico has LOADS of perfectly great places to visit. To write off the entire country makes no sense. As for Bolivia there's some dodgy spots in the cities (same as anywhere) but overall it's no worse than many other destinations in South America.
Lastly, agree 100% with bex76 regarding Burma. Don't confuse political unrest with danger for tourists - that's two separate issues entirely. Burma is an absolutely fabulous destination by any measure and you are wrong to label it as dangerous for smart, prepared foreign visitors.
In Bolivia and Mexico I Traveled with a tour group and despite this i never felt safe. As for Burma, my sister lives there and mum and dad did not enjoy going to visit her because of safety issues
As for Burma, my sister lives there and mum and dad did not enjoy going to visit her because of safety issues
Really? What kind of safety issues did they encounter?
They were robbed of theoretical passports and had HUGE problems with all of that. They were also cheated for Money åt their hotell.
While I sympathise with that happening to your parents, that kind of thing could, and does, happen anywhere in the world and it's no reason to advise people against going to a country! Your parents were particularly unlucky that this should happen in Burma, where in spite of widespread poverty, crime rates are very low.
Well, with your 6months time frame, the whole travel depends on your budget. But I suggest for you guys to explore Asia. There are a lot to do in Asia and several countries like The Philippines, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand are great places to visit.
You can try and visit the beautiful beaches of the the Philippines like Boracay, The Pearl Farm in Davao, Amanpulo in Palawan, Caramoan Islands in Cam Sur and have tons of water activities and island hopping!
Cambodia in Siem Reap and visit Angkor Wat and other fascinating Temples of the country.
Hong Kong and Japan for shopping and themed park tours.
Thailand for its rich and beautiful culture same goes with Vietnam.
It's really tough to decide weather what destination to travel to. Maybe the best thing to do right now is sort your interests in travel. If both of your interests are more on hanging out at a beautiful beach resort, would love to learn a lot about different cultures, food and such, then Asia will be your best bet.
And for hotel accommodations, you can even use this site that I always use during my travels
This will be a big help on finding you the best hotel accommodation deals anywhere around the world and you can even compare prices from one hotel to the other.
I know this trip is really a big deal for you guys and I do hope you will enjoy this 6month spectacular of yours.
Good luck and hoping for the best!
