Think you can get to Tristan on the RMS Saint Helena? Other than that I think you'd need a yacht!
Here is the Tristan da Cunha ship schedule, the RMS St Helena doesn't go there. So about a week of travelling by ship and then you can stay a few weeks on the island. You have to love remote islands and take plenty of books if you don't feel like doing much or the weather is bad....love it![]()
So no one is up for a trip to Kapingamaranghi?
I can see some trips with multiple TP members coming up here!
I've always wanted to do the trans-siberian, though recently the mom of a friend of mine did it, so thinking it probably isn't quite as 'difficult' as it once was ![]()

LOL, I had to look up that one, but it seems it is not that far peddling from Bougainville Island....![]()

My parents lived there for some years. Peter has visited them out there actually and Eric lived with them at least a year there too. Boat came once every 2 or 3 months so it's pretty isolated!

Does the boat travel from other islands of Micronesia or from Solomon island or Papua New Guinea, as those last two countries seem much closer by![]()
Probably shouldn't hijack this thread, but it goes from Pohnpei, ie. Micronesia. There's a few pics at bottom of the Micronesia gallery from there...

That's not quite true. They do still have occasional voyages to Tristan. The last one was a couple of years ago, and the next one is voyage 200 in November 2013. I was given advance warning when it was announced over the summer, and had applied within 2 days of it being announced, yet have still only made the waiting list for tickets... ![]()

Hell, yes! Now i just need some money, time off work, and to get somewhere useful to get on the boat...

I like Gelli's list. Tristan da Cunha is a place I've been fascinated by ever since I read about it as a teenager, in National Geographic. Socotra is also cool. And Antarctica us definitely one of those places I could only visit if someone else was paying for it!
Well, excluding those places, the places I'd most like to visit are:
Tikal
Amazon River
Serengeti during the 'Great Migration'
East coast of Australia (Cairns to Sydney)
Israel and Petra, Jordan
But the only one I'm likely to see this decade is Australia.
Cutting it down to the top 5 places I'd love to explore - difficult, but in no specific order:
New Zealand
Costa Rica
South Africa (Cape Town)
Vietnam
Spain
