22 year old male from north yorkshire, going to be heading alone to australia oct/nov 13. Will be starting off in brisbane for 2 weeks as i have family there. What route would you suggest taking after that or maybe stay in the brisbane area.
Ideally i want to do my 88 days rural work so i have the option of a 2nd year. Going to get my visa pretty soon and book my flights up in the next following few months.
I'll basically do the rest of the things that need sorting when am in australia like medical and tax number etc.
I'm going to australia to get away from things and to meet some people that are like minded. basically enjoy travelling, meeting new people, partying and coming home with more money that i went if its possible.
I just spent the last half hour reading through most of the posts on this and surprised everyone seems to be in the same boat. I'm planning to heading out to sydney in march/April and the take it from there. I was proper bricking it going solo, but having read a few posts it seems this is quite a common thing. I've still not got flights but hoping to get some sorted soon, I'm from Glasgow but probably need to fly from London or Another uk airport, what the best airline to go with? I had looked at Malaysian airlines and quantas but just wondering if anyone has seen any cracking we deals?
Think like a few people on here, once a get to Sydney I'll try bar or labouring work, canny be arsed going to Australia to get stuck in an office again.
Great to hear so many doing it on there own. I'm heading to Oz solo myself, arriving in Perth on 3rd March and ideally want to work for a while, either in Perth or regional to get my second year visa. If anybody is travelling to Perth around the same time, let me know.
I'm a 24 year old male from Ireland, fairly easygoing. Have flights and visa sorted and my only real plan in stating in Perth and seeing what happens from there.
Would be great to meet up with other like minded travellers.
You will be able to fly from Glasgow. Sta travel is good, that's who I've booked mine with, I fly melbourne on the 3rd.
Just been reading through all your posts, so happy to hear there are lots of people goin out on their own as thats the one thing thats been worrying me!!
Im 26 from London, planning on flying out of Heathrow beginnin of April, going to Sydney to start with and then hopefully meeting loads of people that I can then travel and work with!
Its scary but Im so excited at the same time, can't wait to get out of the UK and see what the other side of the world has to offer!!
I'm probably going to book my flights through STA they seems to have the best offers and its the cheapest I've found so far.
Would be great to chat to any of you before you head out there!
When I started this post, I didn't expect to get this many responses and really thought that I was the only one who's travelling on my own lol but now I'm so glad to see everyone is in the same situation I'm flying from heathrow too on 1st of march and I booked with STA Travel they were really helpful so I definitely recommend using them
Hi John, Kate, Lucy and Alsif,
Great to hear that you can travel from Glasgow. I'm from Ireland too John, Co. Tipperary. Might get to see Glasgow for one last time before I leave, perhaps another Celtic game. I expect to be in Sydney around early to mid Feb. Add me on facebook people, what a great idea Alsif Will defo get to meet some of ye in person. All the best.
I'm also going! Not until December 2013 though as i'm finishing my first year of teaching to build up some money. So glad to see i'm not the only person doing this, and worrying about meeting people etc! I'm sure there will be so many people in the same boat that everybody will be friendly!
Found this forum a bit late as I am travelling to Sydney on 8th January. I will spend most of my time there whilst I'm in Australia as I have relatives there. I plan to go to Melbourne, Ayers Rock and Brisbane also. I'm in Oz from January to beginning of April so if people are there the same time, message me as it'd be nice to meet new people
I am not travelling until beginning of June but thought I would get started with the planning/meeting others early because I have spoken to others who have said they found it really useful.
I too haven't planned much yet and don't really intend to do that much before I get there other than get myself informed. As far as I know it's relatively easy to find a job quick if you're not too fussy but gonna be nervous for the first few days certainly because I will be anxious to get settled!
So will be handy to get to know some people before I join you down under!
