Blog password included in the blog URL?

Travel Forums System Talk Blog password included in the blog URL?

Is there a way to include the password of a protected blog in the URL? Then my readers (and myself) wouldn't need to re-enter the password every time they start a new session.

Erm, I don't think that would be particularly secure...

Do you need to re-enter the pw every time you visit the blog from a new browser, or does there seem to be a length of time it sticks?

You need to re-enter it every time you e.g. reopen your laptop, so it's kinda annoying. There's surely a time limit in the session as well. Maybe there could be a lengthier hashed key that would provide similar access?

One simple and helpful thing would be to mark the field type as password so that the browsers would offer to remember it. Then the users would only need to press enter to get to the blog.

It's actually marked type=password, so I'm not sure why browsers aren't offering to remember it. No username to go with it perhaps?

I'll check with Pete if he has any ideas. The easiest I think would be a cookie, though I'm not 100% sure how that would work if the blogger changes their pw to block off people. You don't really want the cookie overriding that option :)
