Myself and my friend are arriving in Melbourne end of April, we are planning on hiring a campervan and driving to Darwin.
Is there anyone or does anybody know anyone male/female who would like to join us to share in the driving and petrol costs etc.
Hannah and I need to get to Darwin for the 15th May as we have a flight to catch. We are thinking of starting the trip 1st May 2005.
No cranks/murderers need respond hee hee
14 days to cross Australia by road is pushing your luck mate. You will spend all your time driving and see next to nothing. In fact, if you're planning to goaround the east coast I'd go so far as to say it's impossible - the place is HUUUUUGE!
Save your money, see the sights and fly instead, you don't have time to do anything else.
Seriously Michelle, its possible but it'd be like driving up and down Ireland 8 times in a row! you'd spend 8 full days (60 hours approx) of driving with only 6 for jet lag & sight seeing if you went full throttle. And that's if you don't have any problems. I'd recommend picking something smaller - Sydney to Brisbane maybe (12 hours driving)? then fly from Brisbane to Darwin with a day or so to look around & catch your flight.
I did a trip like that accross Canada, London Ontario to Nahanni River North West Territories, about an extra 1000km (2 times the length of Ireland) to the trip than Sydney - Darwin, but two weeks to get there - we got to stop in maybe 3 places along the way - the trip overall was great but there were another 3 weeks after that going down the river and getting back. I would have been horribly disapointed if the trip ended when we got to Fort Simpson NWT.
Just some advice, take it or leave it - just have a great time whatever you choose to do!
