How To: 'Subscribe to thread'

Travel Forums System Talk How To: 'Subscribe to thread'

1. Posted by Brendan (Respected Member 1824 posts) 11y

I have subscribed to a couple threads because I sometimes find it hard to look up threads I have posted in recently.

Where can I see the threads I have subscribed to? Am I missing something?

======================================================

Footnote: did the admins develop this site themselves? I am starting to work with ColdFusion and doing something like this would be great. Mainly just the forums part.

Regards,
Brendan

Hey Brendan,

There's no list of subscribed posts currently (possible future development). You will however get emails sent to you every time there's a reply to thread.

Yes, we did develop this site ourselves. There's bits and pieces of code that we re-used (ie, the Live Chat) but mostly it's custom made, including the forums.

That is really great! I like the flow and speed of the forums! The whold site actaully seems really well put together!

Hi Peter - some ideas on that front:

What about some other options to subscribe to a thread? For example, instead of having it delivered to your email, what about to your Message Centre. It would keep them all together, and if it was set up as a thread system instead of a post one, you wouldn't get 20 messages, rather one thread with 20 posts to check.

Also, how about an email or message subscriuption, but which gave you a sort of condensed verison. i.e. instead of sending you a message everytime there's a new post, it sends you one each day with all of the days posts on that thread to?

One of the reasosn i personally subscribe to very few threads is the fact that i then go to my mail box and have 200 replies to subscriptions, but not grouped together etc (they don't go to my gmail account, although that would help solve that if they did), so can be hard to keep track of.

Just a thought.

I also like the idea of being able to see what your subscribed to, and even better, would be if they were live links. I would definitely use that - In an ideal world, personally i'd like to subscribe to some thraaeds BUT not get any notification. I'd like to see when i next logged into TP that of my 10 subscribed threads, maybe 8 have had recent posts on, any hit the thread name to take me to it. That way i can keep track of what i want to, but as and when i have time instead my msgs/email fileld up.

I agree with Gelli, however I don't subscribe to any threads

Ok, interesting points Rich. I forget that other people don't use OS X Mail, which conveniently groups emails with the same title.

I can see that there is definitely some improvements that could be made to the whole subscription process. I'll definitely come back to this thread when ready to make some of these changes.

That is not a bad idea - to ay the end of the day send a batch email during "off" hours?
