Travel Forums Europe Working in Germany

Hi Guys,

So I was thinking of living in Germany and maybe travel around Europe a bit stopping where I please but obviously this can be very expensive and I would need to work as I go. I currently work in a hostel in England on reception and essentially as a manager. I was wondering if it is hard to get this type of work in Germany but without speaking German that well?

I do have a German passport so I'm not worried about permits or anything but my German isn't that great (i have never lived in Germany) but I think I will pick it up fairly quickly with the knowledge I already have and being surrounded by German speaking people all the time.

Working in a hostel there is a lot of European people that check in who end up speaking English (or try to) anyway...I know it is in England but my guess is that the non German people checking in would speak a little English anyway? Don't people who aren't English speak to other non English people in English anyway (if that makes sense) just because its common ground?

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated...thanks...

This is the website of the largest German hostel organsation:
http://www.jugendherberge.de/en/
Contact them and ask about a possible job. Don't forget to mention that you have a German passport and won't need a work permit.
And yes, English is the most widely used common language among non-German speaking foreigners in Germany.
