Hello meeting my boyfriend in thailand in may. Not sure what we are going to do so i told him to get a one way ticket to bangkok as we are going to be away for about a year - probably do south east asia and then onto nepal and india. But does it matter that he will only have a single ticket into bangkok?
Any help would be great
cheers daisy

No

Tickets aren't checked.

the one way ticket can be sometimes more expensive than the return one or just 10 - 20 pounds cheaper.

Better to have the return in case of illness/emergency.

According to a notice at the " visa arrival" counter in Bangkok international airport, it is written that return ticket is necessary.
They check the return ticket.

If you already have a visa before leaving your country, then may be return ticket is not necessary.

my passport requires getting a visa by filling out an application - I always put that I have a return. Occassionally they would ask an additional question - but never to present my ticket.

It might vary with other passports.

If questioned, your boyfriend could say that he's going to leave Thailand by bus to say Cambodia, Laos or Malaysia
