Hey guys

i'm thinking about starting off my round the world trip with six months work aboard a cruise ship. I've read mixed reviews here and there but i'd love to chat to a few people who have done it and hear a few of their experiences!

One of the best times of my life.

What skills do you have?

Cheers,
Terry

Worked in retail my whole life and currently run a business with 50+ staff.

Just writing a policy on customer service for the greater parent company so I guess that's my focus area but I'm pretty flexible!

What sort of area did you work in on board?

I was a safety/first aid guy, lifeguard and handled off-ship excursions for all manner of water activities like SCUBA, etc.

Having multiple skills is a huge advantage to being considered for hire, there are a zillion just-out-of-school resumes from kids that immediately get trashed - they need mature, experienced, on-the-ball people with good social skills. Another language or two helps as does previous travel experience.

It's not something I could ever do long term - too boring with all those bloody cruise passengers - but for a bit it was a GREAT party, and good money.

Good luck.

Cheers,
Terry

Oh wow really the others I've spoken to said they didn't get paid much at all!

Which cruise line did u work for? And what's the best way to apply?

Also what part of the world were you in?

Sorry for the barrage of questions!

My experience is from a long time ago so the details are immaterial at this point, but I made enough money that 1 month on-board equalled about 3 months of high-end backpacking so for a young, single guy and travel addict it worked out very well... six or eight cruises and I could travel for an entire year. Great deal.

I haven't kept up with it, but surely there must be discussion forums now that cater to cruise ship employees, no?

Good luck.

Cheers,
Terry

Hi,

Just curious how you find out where to apply for jobs onboard a cruise ship?

Google is your friend.
