I'm travelling round most if Europe with 2 friends in April for 5-6 months , we are travelling by interrailing so our transport is paid for , looking to stay in hostels and be careful with my money but not sure how many euros to take to have a good time but within reason not stupid amounts
Do you use master/visa too? If so, 100-200euros is plenty, since it is generally very easy to cash money from an ATM machine. If you are not sure, you could always check with your bank.
There is a type of travel waistbag too where you could slip under you clothes. I carry it all day long when I cannot feel comfortable enough to part with my cash/ cards/ passport.
Anyway, just use your normal wit and be a bit more cautious than an average tourist then you'll be fine. Have fun!
How much money overall for six months
Europe is really expensive to travel in general, but it really does vary from country to country. The InterRail is a great way to save money, as is staying in hostels, so I think you are already heading in the right direction. However, without knowing what countries you plan on visiting, I can't really estimate what it would cost you. I also don't know things like how you guys eat (I for example write a food blog when I travel, so my food bills are generally higher than a lot of other travellers), whether or not you drink (as this can add massive amounts to a budget), whether you plan on visiting the attractions in various places etc.
I would suggest looking at travel guides for each individual country you plan on visiting, and maybe even at individual cities as often prices can vary massively between cities as well.
Your costs will definitely vary depending on the country. For a ballpark though I would budget:
- $30-35 per day for a hostel dorm (double that for a private room in a hostel)
- $40-50 per day for food and drinks (if you plan on partying it up, you'll want to budget more for drinks)
- $40-50 per day for tourist attractions/activities
The activities will really be variable. Some days you'll spend nothing, other days you'll spend $200 for one thing. It really depends what you're interested in. If you plan on doing a lot of adventure activities budget more. If museums, historical sites, etc are more your thing, budget less.
A minimum of $100-150 per day should get you by.
