I wanted to ask if anyone had an advice on studying abroad during high school or perhaps taking a gap year after high school? Would like to look more into studying somewhere that Spanish can be used. Any thoughts or points to good sites or programs to check out are greatly appreciated.
Studying abroad is a great way to travel and expand horizons but the timing really depends on your (education) situation. I went to Japan as part of a gap year after school, mostly for the incredible language and cultural exchange as my university studies were in a completely different field.
My only pre-trip "experience" was a small 8-week Japanese language course and a relationship with exchange organisation AIIU. I would suggest contacting a similar non-profit organisation that has cultural exchange programs with a specific country, that way there is a greater chance of a better network of host families and support.
Thanks KellieBarnes! I've come across a few other programs I'm going to look into (AFS, CIEE), so I'll add this one to the list!

I'm personally studing in Germany right now, and I'm originally from US. It's definitely worth the experience.
Nice - how did you decide on Germany? I've been researching blogs and programs and have a good list I'm working from. Did you do online research before making your decision or did friends make recommendations?
Here is some of what I've checked out so far in case anyone is interested:
- USA Gap Year Fairs (found an original list of programs here),
- CIEE Gap Year Programs
- AFS USA Gap Year Programs
- Interim Programs
- Planet Gap Year
- World Endeavors Gap Year Programs
- Gap Buru
- Jackie's Gap Year Blog
- Gap Year
- Gap Year Guide Book
