Travel Forums General Talk What to do with left over medicin?

Hi,
I have loads of leftover malaria tablets, any good idea on what to do with them? Are there organisations around the world that distribute these things?
I´d rather give them to someone that needs them then to the bin...

Idz ;)

Hi there.

Firstly, I think it's really nice that you want to help another person out with your meds. I know that medicine can be so expensive. I work at a pharmacy and our policy is to throw out any medicine that has been previously used (even if it is in tablet form).

Just to let you know, if you are to save the medication, make sure you are aware of the expiration date. It can be a potentially dangerous situation if someone else takes the meds and doesn't know they have an allergy to that medication. Also, since the med wasn't prescribed to the hypothetical person by a doctor, they may not be aware of possible interactions with other med's they are on. I know that a lot of meds have effect the effectiveness of birth control, so that could be another issue.

Not to be a downer, but you if any of this bad stuff happens, you could be legally at fault!

But it was a nice idea!

Caroline

some charitable organisations do collect leftover medicines and send them to poor countries where they are distributed in the hospices by the medical personell.

Alternatively start a thread with a more meaningful title 'malaria tablets to give away for free'

I know some indivual places, especially hospices will accept unused leftover medication. Maybe a Red Cross or Tsunami relief place could answer your question?
