I will be travelling to La coruna with my family for 7 weeks. I have two small children (9 months and 2.5 years) and would like some information on what there is to do. Is it easy to get around with small children? Is it ok to take small children to restaurants?
How does one get a baby-sitter (perhaos there is one you can recommend)? I would like to learn a little spanish whiles I am there. I would like to have a home teacher - any tips?
What is the city like? Can one get diapers and baby food in bottles?
Lots of questions, I know but I would appreciate any information I can get.
Although I've never been to that part of Spain, I think it depends on whether this place is rural or urban. Either way, you will probably be safe, but I would be more apt to bring my own supplies (at least to start) if I were staying somewhere semi-rural, since shopping may have to be done in the next town, for example. You can always have someone from home send you a package every now and then.
I don't have children either, but from what I have seen, the Spanish people are very tolerant of children. It seems that the Spanish are very pro-family.
I have no idea where to find a babysitter/teacher for your child. I suppose I would be a bit caurious, only because if you don't speak Spanish, is no way to check on your baby sitters' references. Do you have any personal contacts near where you're staying? That could be a source of help to you.
Why don't you try to find an Au-Pair?
There are plenty of agencies who will be pleased to check the references for you (in their own interest), and I'm sure the girl will be more than happy to experience both the life in Spain, and the life with a Swedish family!!
it´s quite easy to get around with small children in Spain. You won´t have any problems at restaurants or bars here. As for diapers and baby food in bottles, you can easily find all of that at supermarkets or at the chemist´s (I advise you to get them at supermarkets; at the chemist´s they´ll cost you much more).
