Hi all!

I have officially booked my plane ticket into Auckland and I arrive the morning of February 14! I plan to stay on the north island for 2/3 weeks, and then go to the south island for approximately 2 months. I'm looking to get temporary work scattered all over the south island and was wondering if anyone has any ideas of where to look?

I was also looking into a bus ticket, either with Magic or Stray, and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations/comments about either. I like to party, but don't want it to consume my trip!

Does anyone have any suggestions for backpacks? I'm about 5' 3" and 115 lbs. Looking to take a decent size backpack and a small suitcase.

Any tips or advice would be great! I'm traveling alone and this is my first backpacking trip so let me know if you will be in the area and looking to meet up!

Thanks!
Julia

I've travelled with Stray and Magic around New Zealand and both were great. They're not party buses but you can be as sociable as you want to be, because the chances are there will be someone on the bus who's up for a drink or 2!

Seek is the main job website; also check out backpackerboard and www.seasonaljobs.co.nz.

I'm 5'1 and found 55 litres a struggle when I was in Australia, so now I go with 40 litres if I'm taking a backpack; otherwise I take a holdall on wheels.

Hey I came bkpacking to Nz 3 years ago and never left. Naked bus is the best way and cheapest way to travel round Nz I found. And heaps of people in the same boat as u! Quite hard to find jobs here depending on what u want to do. Def more jobs in the north island then the south! But best bet is queens town! Ur gonna have an amazing time, Nz is the most beautiful place I've ever been!! :-)

Great thanks for the input guys! Queenstown is one of the places I'm most excited about so I'm very happy to hear that haha.

Any suggestions for backpacks? I definitely want to get a good quality one that won't ruin my back (or my bank account either tho!)
