Is it necessary to take a tent with you when going to Laos and Thailand or is it a waste of energy?

not necessary - unless you are thinking about hireing a car and camping by the roadsides. But it can be a dangerous experience.

You can get single rooms from B120 anywhere

Cabo, what are your plans in Thailand and Laos and what kind of budget and time frame do yo have? That will help us answer more questions...

We are in that area for 3 weeks and a half and we were thinking about spending the most of that time in Laos (from north to south).
After that we'd go to Thailand, maybe a part of the north, but end up (by domestic flight) in South of Thailand to relax before leaving back to Europe.
In Laos and North Thailand we'd like to go off the beaten track, meet locals, trekkings, adventure, enjoying the country like it is in the real way... you know?! so the most of our budget will be spend on the domestic flights...

If somebody should be interested to travel a couple days along with us, just let me know! Maybe we can meet up!

I'm going to be in Laos from end of April for about 3 weeks and working my way south to Angkor Wat and Ko Chang in Thailand. Would love to meet up along the way...this thread is really good for exactly what I want to do.
