How far were you planning on going with your pet?
I am too afraid to fly them (and it is cost prohibative) so I will be driving them the 2400 miles next month I wish there were a fast easy way to do it. At least I am not crossing any borders with them..so they won't have to be quarantined!! :)

Uh, to Italy, if it all works out. That's like a 12-hr flight...

I suppose I really shouldn't, huh? If I really do go, it won't be for vacation purposes only. That's why I want my cat with me.

How long though? Sometimes they quarantine them for 6 months! If it is a short trip, I would find a trustworthy and loving person to take care of your cat until you return.

I was thinking about a year there. Everything's still in the planning stages, but I can't imagine being away from my cat for that long a period of time.

Summer, since you are going on an "extended" stay in Italy, I might be able to help you with info and tricks to get your cat there without having to "dose" him/her. How soon do you plan to leave on your trip??

Sorry Summer - forgot to also ask..

What airlines are you most likely to use? I'm sure there are 3-4 or more that are options for you so just a list of the possibles will help me help you. Thanks!

Thanks, Isa. That's really sweet of you :) Not thinking of leaving until March-April next year, so plenty of time for me (or things) to freak out. As for airlines to use... well, uh, whatever takes me to Italy works. I don't have any particular preference, so long as they're pet-friendly.

Summer,

Does you cat mind being in a carrier?? Since you have about 9 months before you plan to leave - there is time to work on it if she is not the most cooperative right now. (I recall you said she was a she?? - My apologies if I am wrong... )

Kitty is a male.

He doesn't like being in a carrier. He'll stay quiet for a while, but not for long.

My apologies, Summer!!!

I have received your answer to my questions and will get the info together. Nice thing - there's a bit of time to work on the carrier situation. Your cat and his carrier will be together without the howling!!! ;)
