Quoting Utrecht

Hi travellers,

At the end of the year it's a bit of a tradition to decorate a tree, lit up some fireworks but also to mention your travels in 2013 here at Travellerspoint..;) And maybe look back at this year as well.

Had a pretty good travelling year: a few short trips in Holland (Drenthe and Vlieland), a few trips in Europe of about 10-12 days (Stockholm, Aland Islands and Turku/Helsinki in March and to the Balkan in June), and one longer trip to Australia as well.

Next year I have already booked tickets to Canada/USA, attending the Quebec Winter Carnival early February, but also visiting NY, DC and take a train south to Savannah, before picking up the car and explore Florida. So both cold and warm weather for me I guess. Going to visit the Daytona 500 as well, looking forward to that.

So, what have you being doing this year and what are your plans for next year?

Cheers
Michael.

We've had a great 2012 - Started in Australia, with New Years in Melbourne, a wedding in the Yarra Valley, my Gran's 90th Birthday in Canberra, then home to Shanghai for Chinese New Year.
Yangshuo and Guilin over the Tomb Sweeping Holiday.
London in April for my sister's wedding.
Summer vacation 3 weeks in Vietnam - Hanoi, Hoian and Ho Chi Minh City, then a week in Hong Kong.
Visitors to Shanghai in October, so saw the city again as tourists!
School breaks up today, but staying put for Christmas.

2013 - all that's planned so far is Harbin, for the Ice festival and a quick trip to Beijing in January, because our kids don't recall seeing the Great Wall (not surprising really as one was only 6 weeks old and the other 2 years old, when we last climbed it!!)
June/July we are moving on from China, but not yet sure where!! The world adventure beckons!! Exciting times ahead!!

Merry Christmas and Happy 2013 to the Travellerspoint Community!!

"... I really don't understand why anyone would want to come here to the USA (with all of it's explosive problems - just had another fatal shooting here in Portland, Oregon)???..."

========================

Are you seriously suggesting that foreign tourists coming to the US are in more danger of being killed than in most other destination round the world?!?!

Cheers,
Terry

No, I'm trying to say that my country has some major problems right now. Now, just today another 27 dead in a shooting in Connecticut (including 18 little children) - we have so many problems with so much security checking and rechecking everything, that I think a foreign tourist would be greatly disappointed. It's my belief that many come here because they see American movies and TV, and really expect life to be the same as it is on the screen.

That's an indescribable horror Daawgon, but I don't see tragedies like that having any discernible effect on an average foreign tourist visiting the US.

For example, there's WAY more horrible violence happening right now in every single country south of the US border from Mexico right to South America than in the US... yet it's still a wonderful place for the average backpacker.

Two different worlds...

Cheers,
Terry

Haven't done anything at all this year. :(

Next year will be alot better though;

Doing Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos from Januari till the end of April. Then heading to Indonesia for about 3 months (thinking about doing Bali, Sulawesi, Kalimantan and Java, but this might change) after which i'm going on to Australia for about 7 months till end of March 2014.

Happy travels in 2013 everybody!

Made one trip in 2012 to visit my cousins at the lake house in Minnesota over July 4th. Otherwise, it's just been the (sort of) weekly adventure to the grocery store.

Hey, that was my line. You have a cousin with a lake house in Minnesota too?

Everybody has to go to the grocery store once in awhile...
