englishstew has indicated that this thread is about Cambodia

I am planning a trip to Cambodia 2013. I enjoy a relaxing beach holiday with bars to visit if I chose ( not in your face! )
Can anyone recommend a place to stay, a hotel and places to visit?
Thankyou
Stew

Stew,
Your only real option IMO is Sihanoukville. Several beaches to choose from in all price ranges. We always stayed on Victory Hill. You can walk to the beach, plenty of cheap rooms, restaurants, bars and a casino as well. It was looking a little shabby when I was last there. My blog has plenty of S'ville photos. I would get to S'ville, then hire a moto and take a tour of all the beach options. Take a look at Victory Hill, Hawaii Beach, then over to Independence Beach, Sokha, Serendipity, Ochhateal, Otres. Decide what beach you like and what GH. Good luck with your planning.

Thanks Mike thats very helpful. I had a look at Sihanoukville on web and it said that it can be unsafe and there were regular muggings and roberies. Is that true?

Stew,
Sihanoukville certainly has a decent crime rate. One of the most common crimes is to stop motos at night. They force your taxi driver over and take your stuff. Either stay off motorbikes at night or have very little money on you.

Here is what I suggest. Pick an area to stay. It will most likely be Victory Hill area or Serendipity Beach area. Eat & drink in this area. Walk to and from your GH. Unless you are out very late, others will be walking around with you. Safety in numbers. I also recommend a throw away wallet. If robbed, hand over your throw away. Have under $10 in local and a few USD. Enough they got something, not enough to worry about. Hand it over and go the other way. Carry real money under your clothes or in a shoe. Once there, chat with others about your concerns. Anyone in S'ville a few days will give you advice on crime issues. Good luck.
