I was just there in late Nov - think you will be bored with Vientiane after 2 days. Vientiane is a dusty and poor little capital - my suggestion is to head for Luang Prabang, and please don't take the bus (Lao Airlines is very good).

Thanks for the advise mate honestly but a flight with loas airways would cost me 230 quid and I'm not paying that. If I get bored I'll take my chances on a bus

I disagree - I thought the scenery on the bus journey from Luang Prabang to Vientiane was beautiful so well worth the journey, plus Lao Airlines have a poor safety record so I wouldn't recommend flying with them. I found Vientiane a nice, chilled out place to spend a few days.

Hey James,

Vientiane is an interesting enough place its kinda cool to stroll along the front watching the fishermen work, it is much more layed back than its neighbouring capital cities, however you may be looking for more excitement after a couple of days, if this is the case get on the bus to Vang Vieng
