Where were you two years ago today? What were you doing and do you feel you have achieved a lot in the time that has past? Are you happy with the way your life has moved on in that time?

Two years ago to the day, I took off from Charles de Gaulles airport in France, on a flight to Buenos Aires. Landing there opened a whole new world to me and gave me the freedom and the space I had been craving for. The next 6 months of my life were fantastic as I was treated to one spectacle after another as I travelled and lived on the continent. Although travel is what these forums are about, I am feeling a little nostalgic and think that there are times when it is good to look back and assess what one has achieved.

Well, for my part I can safely say that I am not at all where I thought I would be, either before I left for latin America or when I came back. Life does not always go the way you plan. I must admit that I do not like being cooped up in an office working 9-5 all week with no holidays worth speaking of, at least, not enough to go off travelling again. Recently I decided that I was going in the wrong direction and decided to change that. I quit my mundane office job and have set out on a quest to find myself a more interesting one. With a little luck (and some good language skills) I may end up working in some international organisation that actually cares about the world and does something about helping it be a better place.

Right now I am feeling very positive about things because I feel that I have once again taken control of my life in a way that I had not felt really since travelling. I am now sitting in the driving seat deciding on the coordinates and it feels great. My only regret is that I did not do this sooner.

I wish I was starting those 6 months again! How many mor things to see and do! Places to go and people to meet!!!

Funny thing, I have kept my daily runner since 2001. Cant live without it. I went to look and two years ago, March 14th, it was a Friday. I went to work out in the morning, went to work, had to file extensions with the IRS (tax institution in the US) for Corporate Tax Returns due on Monday, met with three clients, and went out with the girls for Martini night...nothing unusual. In two years, yes, I have been able to travel a lot, finished my career, secured my future...things are just awesome and about to get better!

I was trying to arrange a buisness visa for Russia because the tourist visa's are too short! What a crazy mess that was!

I spent three months there, including some of the best times of my life so far! I came back and worked - payed off what I over spent and then went to school for three months. Also worked at FutureShop (Now owned by Best Buy) which is one of the worst employeers going.

Worked through the next spring, and started school again in British Columbia. I am on the last month of that stretch right now actaully. I didn't really think I would be where I am, but I never really knew so it is not much of a suprise.

Right now I am planning for Spain for the next couple months. After that who knows!

Interesting thread topic thats for sure! Took me awhile to trace back my steps!

Two years ago this week (not sure of the day) I was in the office of my department head at university explaining that I had managed to leave my first draft and all my research notes for my dissertation in Portugal. My disseration was due in two weeks time.

PANIC!!!

ACK Eve! What happened??
In some ways I am much further than I thought I would ever be...and in others I am so far behind I don't know how I will ever catch up.

I can't forget the day I took off as I landed there the next day. The next day is now today and today is my birthday, hence the reason I remembered so precisely. I landed in BA, met my best friend at the airport and went out for one of the best meals I ever had in my life in some very posh (and cheap) restaurant.

Two years ago I was in the process of changing jobs, planning a short trip to Ottawa (my first solo trip - hey, I had to start somewhere!) and recovering from a rather difficult winter. It was the start of a turning point back to the things that matter in life - but hey, in retrospect, isn't everything somehow significant?

Oh my God, Nikki...thats terrible! I presume your sister is ok now right? Good for you for telling your boss like it is, I would have done the same...in my life, my sister is my one and only No. 1 in my life.
