Hey there!
All I have planned so far is my flight out beginning of June and 7 days accommodation in Sydney. Still need to get my visa and insurance so any tips on that will be gratefully received (prices, best cover, etc.). What I really want to know is:
How easy is it to find accommodation and what kind of rent would I be looking at?
Likewise, jobs. Do I find somewhere to live first or work and how quick can I expect to find one? (I'm not fussy but would ideally love a bar job because I think it will be the funnest way to settle in)
Anyone else going to be around at that time?
Thank you fellow travellers!

Hey,
Might be able to help a little here ...
i lived in Sydney for 7 months about 2 years ago and should be in oz about june Time
I was lucky enough to have a flat paid for me during this time but many people i met was in hostels ... i would recommend arranging a hostel first as when you get to Sydney there are always people needing flat shares, also visit a place on george street called Travel
Jobs - id go on to the Jobserve website or the normal sites for oz such as Seek.com.au ... mycareer.com.au ... Careerone.com.au
You will need a bank account (depending how long you are staying for) id recommend ANZ.
Just trying to think of more thing s i can tell you help you .....
They always have little flyers atatched to lamp posts with contact nubmers on for flat shares or house shares ect ...
Hope this helped a little.
Thanks,
Jean-Lila

Hi !!
I too am going June 19th is my flight date. I also am planning on doing a hostel for 2 weeks then looking into sharing a flat/apartment.
A bit of advice I have gotten said jobwise, take a few printed CV's out with you as when you're walking around it's easy and helpful to hand them out.
Insurance I don't plan on soting till a week before and i've heard just typing Travel Insurance into google brings up lots of cheap ones, also Post Office is good. Should be about £130 for a year.
Hope that helps
Luke

Thank you so much for all the advice! I have 7 days accommodation in Sydney which I am hoping will be enough to get myself sorted but I could always find more when I'm there I guess?
Good idea about the CVs and I am defo going to look at those sites before I go. I read somewhere they have a different format for CVs in Aus so will have to google that.
Jean-Lila - are you going back to Sydney? Where you working whilst there?
Luke - Are you too getting a working holiday visa?
Thanks again guys!

Hii !!
Yeah I've already got a work travel visa. Had it sorted for months haha ! Flights booked already. All I need is my accommodation. Thinking of booking 2 weeks in advance.
Also a good bit of advice with hostels I've been given is once or twice a week book into a nice B&B or hotel for a good nights sleep and shower.
Think I might have to google the CV being different so if you find anything please post it as it would be helpful
Luke
