I plan on travelling to the USA in for 2 months then onto Mexico and other central american countries. I have been told that when leaving the USA you need proof of onward travel past Mexico. Would anyone be able to confirm or deny this?
I am Australian if this helps
If you have tickets that take you to some inland spot in Mexico (for example, to Cancun or Mexico City, or Guadalajara) then you will have no problem. If you have something like either a bus ticket to Tijuana or even a super-cheap plane ticket from someplace like Tucson to Nogales, where the cost is negligible, then the US passport people will question whether you really plan to use the ticket--or whether it is your intention to remain in the U.S.
