Travel Forums Asia China to Thailand advice

Hello,
I'm currently working as a teacher near Shanghai and soon will be leaving China after an 18 month stint to travel some more of Asia.
I've been to Thailand and Vietnam before but a few years ago now and am finding it hard to see relevant forum post regarding costs.
At the time of my last trip, my travel buddy commented on how expensive it had gotten since her last trip, only the year before.

Living in China can be extremely cheap, I am just wondering what to expect in the rest of Asia in comparison?
There will be two of us travelling and we will be using land transport where possible. Does anyone have any rough ideas of current prices per day (in either GBP or RMB)

Also has anyone got any advice on the most efficient route through Asia once we hit Hanoi via Nanning? We are planning to go to Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia as well as Vietnam.

Oh and lastly, how easy is it to pick up teaching work in these countries if we decided to stop somewhere for a while?

Any advice would be great!
Thanks
Red
